Elks Aidmore Children's Center is a private, non-profit residential program for teenage girls who have problems that require a more structured environment than can be provided in their home or community setting. Sponsored by the Elks Lodges and Auxiliaries of Georgia, Aidmore is located on 125 rolling acres in Conyers, about 25 miles east of Atlanta.
Since it's reopening in August of 1993, Elks Aidmore Children's Center
has grown to provide residential services to fifty residents at any given
time. In addition to having three basic care cottages which offer "safe"
places in which residents can try out new behaviors, a Preparation for
Independent Living program was initiated in October of 1995. The
Preparation for Independent Living program presents a curriculum of life
skills aimed at helping residents prepare for living on their own.
In addition to a structured cottage life, the residents attend Rockdale
County schools, long recognized for their excellence in education.
Residents also partake in a variety of on-campus and community recreational opportunities. Residents and their families are offered individual, group and family counseling, by three Master level therapists, to help resolve a variety of issues and presenting problems.
In May, 1996, Elks Aidmore Children's Center was awarded a certificate of accreditation from the Council of Accreditation of Services for Families and Children, Inc., headquartered in New York City. After a year long self-study and an on-site inspection by external reviewers, Elks Aidmore Children's Center was commended for it's high quality of service
delivery.
Elks Aidmore Children's Center joined a nationwide community of providers that meet the highest standards of professional performance in the field of child welfare.
Elks Aidmore Children's Center is a long-standing member of the Georgia
Association of Homes and Services for Children and joined the Child
Welfare League of America in 1994.
In addition to helping teenage females mature into productive young
adults, Elks Aidmore Children's Center offers a camping program and
adventures ropes program to groups and corporations across the state. The
Elks Campground at Honey Creek offers the chance for groups to camp in a
safe, sequestered environment filled with wildlife. The Course at Elks
Aidmore Children's Center offers corporations the opportunity to build
teamwork and leadership skills through experiential education.
