Elks Scholarships & Awards

Southapton Elks Lodge is pleased to very actively participate in educational and emergency scholarships, awards and grants for students within our lodge's jurisdiction. General details are available at http://www.elks.org/enf/scholars/ for all awards, procedures and deadlines, while links below will take you to information for the specific scholarship or award.  The awards and grants which are offered are:

The Elks National Foundation  Most Valuable Student scholarship contest will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2016 competition.  The application must be submitted to the Elks Lodge nearest to the applicant's home by December 4, 2015.

  • Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply.
  • Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks.
  • Applicants must take the ACT and/or SAT test before 11/10/15 to qualify.
  • College students are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.
  • Male and female students compete separately.

Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Applications for the 2016 contest are now available to download.  Applications must advance through local, district and state competitions to reach national judging. At each level of judging, the Elks National Foundation Scholarship Office will send email notifications to applicants informing them if they advanced in the contest or not. The first round of email notifications will be sent in mid-January, after Lodge judging is completed. NY State Elks Association Scholarship - utilizes the same application, procedure and deadline as for the Most Valuable Student scholarship contest application submitted to the local lodge for processing, which thereafter is considered by the District Scholarship Committee and, if approved, then is considered by the NY State Scholarship Committee.  

Southampton Elks Lodge Scholarship(s) - Southampton Elks scholarships are awarded based on the application submitted for the Most Valuable Student contest with the same deadline for submission.  Two are awarded from scholarship funds established in memory of two generous deceased Lodge members, Joseph Ciachetti and John Aluskewicz, and occasionally one or more additional scholarships are awarded by Southampton lodge to other students within our lodge's jurisdiction.

Elks Legacy Scholarship Contest - Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships for children and grandchildren of Elks members. The 2016 Legacy Awards application is due online by 12:00 p.m. (noon) Central Time on Friday, January 29, 2016.The Foundation will offer a total of up to 250 awards in the 2016 contest.  Applications for the 2016 contest are available ONLINE ONLY.  

  1. For the 2016 contest, any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2013, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2013, is eligible to apply. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2016. Great-grandchildren are not eligible.
  2. The applicant must be a high school senior.
  3. The applicant must apply online only.  .
  4. If the applicant's parent and grandparent are both Elk members, the applicant must apply through the parent's Elks Lodge.
  5. Applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT) by December 31, 2015.
  6. Students may apply for more than one ENF scholarship; however, they may win only one. In cases where the student qualifies for more than one, we will award the scholarship with the greater value. Students can accept local and state scholarships, which are separate from the awards at the national level.
  7. Legacy Awards may only be applied to accredited US American schools, colleges or universities. (Note: Applicants from Guam, Panama, Puerto Rico and the Philippines may apply Legacy Awards toward schools, colleges or universities in their respective homes.)
  8. If you are selected as a 2016 Legacy Awards recipient, you will be required to perform service once a year with an Elks Lodge during the four years you are receiving the scholarship.

Elks National Foundation Emergency Grants -  awarded to children of a deceased or totally disabled Elks member. Grant amounts can range up to $4,000.00, and the grant is for one year only; however the student may submit up to three annual renewal applications for succeeding years,as long as he or she meets all other eligibility requirements.  New applications and renewals should be filed between May 1, 2015 and Oct. 31, 2015.  The grant is for educational assistance only and is not intended to cover the entire cost of a college education.  Assistance cannot be extended beyond four years.  If a member (or a member known by someone) qualifies for the Emergency Educational Grant, they should contact the Elks National Foundation Scholarship Department at (773) 755-4732 or send an e-mail to scholarship@elks.org to request an application (which is available from that office only).  For more information, click on the following link: http://www.elks.org/ENF/scholars/eefgrants.cfm
