The Saratoga-Wilton Elks #161 will celebrate our 53rd Annual Flag Day Parade on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Line Up on North Broadway will be at 11 am with the First Division scheduled to step off at 12 noon. Please email us at email@example.com to request an application. All participants will be notified of their division and lineup location prior to the parade.
Due to concerns that COVID-related restrictions limiting the size of social gatherings may still be in effect on Saturday, June 12, 2021, the scheduled date of its Flag Day Parade, Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge No. 161 has announced the postponement of its 53rd Flag Day Parade until September 11, 2021, at which time it will commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. Parade participants will march down Broadway in the City of Saratoga Springs starting at noon. This year’s parade theme will be “Honoring Our First Responders”. The Elks plan to honor not only our brave local first responders who went to New York City to assist with search and rescue efforts after the Twin Towers fell, but also our community’s first responders who have been at the forefront of the local response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including medical personnel, public health officials, law enforcement members, and emergency services personnel. The Elks are pleased to announce that the Avant Garde Drum and Bugle Corps will again reunite and be a key participant in this year’s parade.
Eleven Members of the Saratoga-Wilton Lodge #161 recently delivered an Air Hockey Table and a Bowling Machine to Saratoga Bridges in Wilton, New York using the funds from the Elks National Foundation Gratitude Grant in the amount of $2,000.00. In addition, weighted blankets for clients with anxiety and art supplies for their Arts Therapy Program were a part of the donation to Saratoga Bridges, who serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Saratoga-Wilton Elks #161 recently used a portion of their Elks National Foundation Beacon Grant for the Mother Susan Anderson House in Saratoga Springs, which is a Women and Children Emergency Shelter located on Caroline Street. Members (and some family members too) delivered 12 sets of bed linen, 12 comforters and 6 blankets to the Shelter. Thank you to this great group of volunteers shopping and delivering these items for those in need in our Community! Evan Rosettie, representing the Saratoga-Wilton Lodge, finished in a 3-way tie for First Place in the Boys’ 12-13 Year Old Division, and won the tiebreaker at the New York State Elks Association Hoop Shoot State Competition in Syracuse this past weekend, on March 7, 2020. He will next compete in the Northeast Central Region 5 Hoop Shoot on March 21 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, where he will go up against the State Champions from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. If he is successfully there, he will move on to the National Hoop Shoot Finals in Chicago on April 18. Evan’s Mom, Kara Rosettie, posted this on facebook: “This has been such an amazing experience for my son, Evan. Looking forward to moving into Tri-State in two weeks and representing the Saratoga Wilton lodge!” Pictured (Left to right): 12-13 Evan Rosettie (representing OUR Lodge), 10-11 Thomas Goodelle, 8-9 Grace Mahaney, 10-11 Jadyn Trocki, 8-9 Brett Saunders, 12-13 Hayley Stafford Congratulations to all the NYS Hoop Shoot Champions! Food insecurity is a very real problem, especially for seniors without transportation. The Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge #161 Senior Outreach is doing something about it. Volunteers meet on the second and fourth Tuesday at Franklin Community Center and St Clements, and the second and fourth Wednesday at Wilton Food Pantry. While there, bags are packed with requested food items on the menu, and then delivered to Raymond Watkins Senior Apartments, Embury, Saratoga Community Center, Northern Pines, and Wilton Commons. The seniors are so appreciative because they no longer have the burden of purchasing food with their limited incomes, or choosing between paying for food or their medications. None of this would happen without our volunteers and partners. Thank You! It takes a village to make it work, but we still have so much more to do. Since gaining additional volunteers, two more senior apartments will be joining the program. A meeting with the seniors residing at both places will take place the end of July, and will provide program information, instructions on completing menus and when they are due, and will also include time for questions and answers. Senior Outreach is growing rapidly and to reach out to so many in need, we still need more volunteers. It does not take up much of your time, it is so much fun, and it is so rewarding to see so many happy faces as the seniors see their food bags delivered. If you are interested in volunteering, please go to our Facebook page Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge #161 Senior Outreach and let us know. Also please remember to “Like” our page.
Today was a very good day. Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner joined our Food Delivery this afternoon. We met at the Wilton Food Pantry at 2:00pm. Packed and delivered 33 bags of food to the Raymond Watkin Senior Apartments. The Elks greatly appreciate Carrie’s support and look forward to working in the future.
