MA State Elks Association President Biography

"Those who can do, Those who can do more, are called Elks"

On June 13, 2009 at the 99th State Convention of the Massachusetts Elks Association, Jim Strojny was installed as State President for the 2009-2010 Association year.

Jim was initiated into the Taunton Lodge of Elks #150, in August 1982 and early on, became active in the lodge. He was elected to Exalted Ruler for the 1988-1989 year and was then elected to a 5 year term as a Lodge Trustee in 1989 and finished his term in 1994. He was elected Lodge Secretary in 1996 and served in that capacity until 2000, at which time he was elected for the 2nd time as Exalted Ruler of the Lodge for the 2000-2001 year. Jim was also, voted by his lodge in 1998, to an Honorary Life Membership, for his service to his lodge, State Association and Grand Lodge.

Jim's activity in the MA Elks Association, Inc. started in 1989 as a South District Chairman. He was elected to a 3 year term on the Massachusetts Elks Association State Board of Trustees in 1992. During that time, he was elected Secretary of the State Trustees for 2 terms starting in 1993-1994 and again in 1994-1995. Jim has also served the MA Elks Association as a State Chairman of several committees, starting in 1996-1997, with the Elks National Memorial Fundraising Committee, in 1997-1998 with the MA Elks News Boosters, then for the years 2000-2004 Elks Training Committee and for the years 2004-2006 MA Lodge Activities Committee. He also has served as State Sergeant at Arms twice, first in 1999-2000 under State President Charles Russell and again in 2004-2005 under State President John "Jack" McHale. In addition, Jim has been the MA Elks Association's E-mail News Editor since 2003.

Jim was named State Elk of the Year in 2001-2002 under State President Lou Connolly, for his dedicated work with the Elks Training Committee and for developing the E-mail notification system, for the MA Elks Association.

Jim has served the Grand Lodge as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the South District for the 1995-1996 year under Grand Exalted Ruler Edward Mahan and has served a 3 year term as District Leader of the South District, from 2002-2005.

Jim has been married to his wife Mary, since 1997 and has three children; Erin, Zachary (who is currently serving with the US Marines) and Tyler. He has one grandson; Bryson. He is a graduate of the former Southeastern Massachusetts University in Dartmouth, MA, with a degree in Industrial Relations and has been employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services, as a Habilitative Coordinator Supervisor, since 1982.
