Nels first became interested in the ENF because he saw it as a way to make a lasting difference. The scholarship program in particular gives the opportunity for the next generation to further themselves, says Nels, and eventually give back to their communities.
As Wyoming's ENF chair, Nels plans to emphasize the importance of communication and increased awareness within the state. When a member understands the Foundation, he or she is more likely to give, Nels says. He would also like to exercise more creativity in his position in order to increase the state's contributions.
When he's not promoting the ENF or working as a consultant, Nels also enjoys backpacking, hunting and shooting. Additionally, he is the Secretary for Gillette Lodge.
When asked to give advice to his fellow volunteers, Nels says to lead by example. We need to give, understand the Foundation, and help our brothers and sisters see its importance.
