I have been having a great year so far. I am currently nearing the end of my fall quarter as a second year animal science student. I have recently decided to concentrate my studies on pre-veterinary medicine and wish to go to veterinary school after graduating from Cal Poly. To get experience in this field, I have been volunteering at the local Marine Mammal Center in Morro Bay for almost a year. At the center, I help pick up stranded and sick marine mammals off the beaches so they can be taken to the main hospital in Sausalito. I get to assist with the basic animal care that is done at the facility in Morro Bay. Recently, I helped rescue a California Sea Lion from a local beach that had been bitten by a shark. It is a very rewarding volunteer job. I enjoy every minute of it! In addition to going to school and volunteering at the Marine Mammal Center, I have also been working as a swim coach for a local swim club. Competitive swimming has been part of my life since I was eight years old. I am happy to be able to share my knowledge of the sport with up and coming athletes."
