Come be a part of the Elks quiet network of good deeds! The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the USA has an opening for a Desk Attendant/Guide for the Elks National Memorial and Headquarters Building which reopened to the public on April 15, 2025.
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America is one of the oldest and largest fraternal organizations in the country. The BPO Elks is committed to the ideals of charity and patriotism.
This is a part-time, seasonal position from April 15th to November 15th. The work hours for the position are 11:45am to 4:15pm, Monday through Saturday. (Candidates who are available to work some of the days may be considered.)
Responsibilities include:
Requirements: Qualified candidates will be welcoming, outgoing and charismatic, have the ability to provide factual information in an engaging way, enjoy meeting new people, have good communication skills, be interested in history, art and or architecture, have basic computer skills, a positive perspective, patience, be reliable and punctual, be able to work independently without direct supervision, have a clean neat appearance, be able to push open the front gates and pull them closed at the end of the day.
Compensation: Based on experience. This position will pay $17-$18 per hour.
This position does experience lulls between visitors to the building and can provide opportunities to read, study, knit, etc.
Our office is accessible by public transit (CTA Brown Line and various bus lines.)
The Elks Campus is on the border of the Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhoods. It is within walking distance to various restaurants and local hot spots; there is something for everyone. We have Trader Joes, Duffy’s, Chipotle, North Pond, Lincoln Park Zoo, The Peggy Notebart Nature Museum, Diversey Driving Range, etc. We are located 3 blocks from the lake and the bike path and near many parks to picnic in, walk through and relax in.
