Position Description

Reports to:     Manager, Scholarship Programs

Purpose:        To help engage Elks scholars through service.  

Term:              June 1, 2020 through July 6, 2022


Requirements: Must be an Elks scholar alum willing and able to relocate to Chicago for the entire term of the position. Four-year degree; self-starter with the ability to work independently on multiple projects, with excellent follow through; strong organization and communications skills; familiarity with leading peers; and ability to work well in group settings. Some experience in volunteer management and knowledge of the Elks preferred.


Position requires travel, including for the three one-week Elks Scholar Service Trips, site visits and the Elks National Convention. 



  1. Organize and lead up to three Elks Scholar Service Trips per year. This includes planning site visits as necessary, developing an itinerary, scheduling service and Lodge visit opportunities, recruiting participants, coordinating travel, executing the Elks Scholar Service Trip curriculum while onsite and completing follow-up.
  2. Promote all aspects of Elks Scholar Service Trips to Elks scholars and Lodges.
  3. Coordinate and organize other Elk scholar engagement opportunities as assigned, including scholar meet-ups.
  4. Tell the Elks scholars’ stories through social media, online and print publications.
  5. Cultivate strong relationships with Elks scholars and continue to grow an active, supportive Elks scholar community through frequent communication and relationship building.
  6. Stay abreast of best practices in related program fields, including community service/volunteerism, non-profit outcomes, and alumni relations.
  7. As a member of the ENF scholarships department, provide support to the Scholar Advisory Board, including at the annual meeting, field inquiries from Elks scholars, membership and the general public regarding Elks Scholar Service Trips and ENF scholarship programs, process Legacy Awards service requirements and follow-up, and perform related duties as assigned.
