Position Description

Become a part of a dynamic charitable foundation in Lincoln Park whose national programs teach youth lifelong skills, inspire the pursuit of knowledge, serve veterans, and transform local communities into healthier and safer places to live.

The Elks National Foundation has an opening for a Communications Coordinator at its National headquarters in Chicago. Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Communications Coordinator is responsible for cultivating and stewarding donors and other stakeholders. The Communications Coordinator is a part of a story-telling team, that uses multiple platforms to communicate.  

The Communications Coordinator will interact with donors, volunteers, program participants and co-workers to:

  • Produce original high-quality, timely stories; news releases; and other written communications.
  • Manage the Foundation’s online and social media presence.
  • Help develop and grow the Foundation’s YouTube audience.
  • Coordinate efforts to share department and program news with the appropriate audiences.
  • Cultivate and solicit donors through targeted mailings and e-communications.
  • Contribute to and/or generate e-newsletters and other publications.

In addition, the Communications Coordinator will:

  • Maintain the Elks National Foundation’s brand and style, ensuring consistency across platforms and departments.
  • Implement strategies to retain new donors.

Qualified candidates must:

  • Be an excellent story-teller.
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, or similar field, and one or more years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrate strong organization, writing and communication skills.
  • Be proficient in social media platforms and Microsoft Office applications. Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Luminate Online, and knowledge of HTML are pluses.
  • Have a strong attention to detail.
  • Be a self-starter with excellent follow through.
  • Work independently on multiple projects as well as in a team environment.
  • Set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Have a willingness and desire to learn.
  • Take ownership and pride in projects.
  • Have a sense of humor.
