Position Description

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the USA has an immediate opening for a capable and highly motivated Senior Systems Administrator at our headquarters location in the heart of Lincoln Park.   


The Senior Systems Administrator will take over all aspects of the configuration and maintenance of our computer systems, be a problem solver, have high customer service skills, and will demonstrate a love for technology.

Responsibilities include:

  • Day-to-day maintenance of Active Directory infrastructure and objects.
  • Participate in provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of virtual machines, systems, hardware, software, and related infrastructure.
  • Manage the configuration and operation of client-based computer operating systems
  • Administer infrastructure, including networks, firewalls, wi-fi, malware protection software and other processes
  • Manage and monitor On Premise and private cloud sites
  • Create and verify backups of data
  • Respond to and resolve help-desk requests; Provide technical support for both hardware and software issues our users encounter
  • Work as part of a team while also being self-motivated when working independently
  • Monitor the system daily and respond immediately to security or usability concerns
  • Automate everyday IT help-desk and system administration tasks such as patching, support, software installation, etc.
  • Assist with preparing for and setting up the IT needs for Elks’ annual convention and attend as required
  • Assist in recommending, scheduling, pricing, and implementing upgrades to infrastructure and budget planning
  • Create infrastructure documentation and keep it up to date

RequirementsQualified candidates will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, related work experience, and a passion for IT.


  • Must also have the following skills/experience:
    • 4 or more years of Windows Server and Active Directory systems administration experience
    • 4 or more years of VMWare administration experience
    • Office365 administration experience
    • Powershell scripting knowledge
    • Technical knowledge of current software protocols and Internet standards
    • Outstanding deductive and investigative skills to identify and diagnose complex, non-intuitive technical problems
    • Enterprise scale networking
    • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems
    • Integrity and credibility to work with sensitive and confidential data
    • Strong PC literacy and Microsoft Office skills
    • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, members, and vendors.
    • Analytical ability is required to gather and summarize data for reports, find solutions to various problems, and prioritize work.


  • Related certifications such as certifications obtained from Microsoft, VMWare, or Cisco are a plus.
  • Experience in providing systems and software support to software developers preferred.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule and have “on-call” availability.
  • Must have intellectual curiosity and the desire to keep current with evolving IT trends in the industry.
  • Must have an elevated level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
  • Position will require overnight travel for up to 7 days for the annual convention.


Must also be detail oriented, have strong communication and organizational skills, high level of initiative, the ability to work both independently as well as part of a team, ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, the ability to read and interpret technical information, and the desire to grow yourself, your team and the company.  Must also be patient and able to work with and communicate effectively with people of varying levels of computer skills. 


This is an exempt level position. Compensation is based on experience.
