Welcome to our Lodge!

Bob Benoit, Exalted Ruler 2018-2019

First and foremost, I would like to thank you all for the honor of being the Exalted Ruler of the Rochester Lodge for the 2018-2019 year… It is the best Lodge in the state. I also would like to thank all for the support that Roxanne and I received this year in accomplishing our goals and objectives for the year. I had committed to you that in the 2018-2019 year we would focus in four key areas ? Sustained growth of membership by add 60 new, transferred or re-instated members: This was accomplished, and we will have a positive net gain for the fourth year in a row. ? Increased new member involvement through new programs and events: This was accomplished. We started up a new bid whist league, we moved the Cornhole league to Monday nights and increased participants in doing so, and we changed our by-laws to allow an Elk Riders Association and we are gaining members because of it. ? Increase community awareness what the Elks stands for and does: This year the Rochester Elks held their first open house to inform the outside public of the good work that we do. While the event was not attended by the outside public as much as we had hoped we certainly gained new members for the event. I also believe we have promoted our Lodge well within the Elks organization. The Grand Exalted Ruler was very complimentary of his visit with us, The State president has been to several of our events, and when it comes to bragging rights…. Rochester won the Tri-Lodge games and won the best Hospitality suite contest at the state Convention. I truly believe the Rochester Lodge is setting the standard for all Elk’s Lodges in the state with the good work and the fun that we have. ? Better the Lodge’s financial standing: Unfortunately, this was only partially accomplished. I believe as a Lodge with the help of the Home Committee we have drastically cut labor and operating expenses and we truly have a better understanding of the cost of doing business. I also believe through the help of the Home Committee we have put better controls in place so that the Lodge operates more like a business. The unfortunate part is that revenue form one of our biggest revenue generators (Lucky 7) is well off the mark form previous years. There could be a few reasons for this, but most believe it is related to Rochester voting down the approval for Keno while neighboring towns voted it in. This coming November it will be up for vote again… pass the word… let’s get this voted in. In closing it has been a heck of a year, thank you for the ride…. we couldn’t have done it without your support!

Fraternally yours, Bob
