MARION ELKS 32 COMMITTEES

Here is a brief description of our committees. Please tell any officer if any interest you.

BOWLING
Purpose: to promote bowling activities and fellowship within the lodge¡¦s members, and recruit new members. Example activities: Promote interest and get teams together to participate in the District, State and National tournaments. Organize a "Nine Pin No Tap" bowling day.

CALENDAR SALES
Purpose: To ensure the success of this annual fund-raiser that runs from October through December. The Ohio Elks create an annual calendar, which sells for $20. Each calendar has a three-digit number, and if that number comes up during the year in the Ohio Lottery, the calendar purchaser wins up to $500. We keep $5.00 from the purchase of each calendar.

CEREBRAL PALSY (CP)
Purpose: To spearhead the effort to raise $3.65 per member for the Ohio Elks Cerebral Palsy Fund. Coordinated fundraising activities are needed all year to meet this goal. Example activities include special raffles, drawings, etc. held during Elks functions.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/SERVICE
Purpose: To keep an accurate record of the amount of money and time spent or donated by our Lodge on projects designed for the betterment of the Marion area. Also, to create a binder to enter our Lodge into the Elks Community Service Image Contest. Work with all other committees and the secretary to recap the Lodge's annual charitable projects.

DRUG AWARENESS
Purpose: To head the local effort to combat drug abuse among young people. Activity: order, sort and deliver drug awareness literature to all local school systems, and seek other ways the Elks can support anti-drug efforts such as the D.A.R.E. program. Coordinate with PR chairman.

ENTERTAINMENT
Purpose: To develop, plan and oversee an annual plan and budget for entertainment, either in the club and dining room or outside activities, in order to promote membership involvement. Example activities include monthly dances, special dinners, Buckeye Bash, euchre matches, etc.

FLAG DAY
Purpose: To coordinate the proper conduct of the annual Flag Day Ceremony, a mandatory Elks activity, approximately one hour in duration, that is held every June on a Sunday that falls close to Flag Day, June 14th. We usually hold this ceremony in conjunction with the Delaware Elks.

GOLF
Purpose: To promote golfing activities and fellowship within the Lodge's members, and recruit new members. Activities include promoting interest and getting together teams to participate in local, district, state and national tournaments.

HISTORIAN/ARCHIVIST
Purpose: To chronicle the history of our lodge, archive our historical artifacts and ensure they are properly insured, and apply for historical status for the building.


"HOOP SHOOT" FREE THROW CONTEST
Purpose: To organize, plan, recruit member assistance and conduct the local free throw contest for area boys and girls.

MEMBERSHIP AND LAPSATION
Purpose: To achieve a net gain in membership this year. Activities: work with the Lodge secretary to contact members who do not pay their dues, and develop activities and means to urge and reward current members for proposing new members.

MEMORIAL SERVICE
Purpose: To organize the annual Elks Memorial Service, held the first Sunday of December to remember our members who have passed on during the previous year. This service is open to the public, and special efforts are made to contact and invite the family members to attend.

(ELKS) NATIONAL FOUNDATION
Purpose: To head the effort to raise at least $3.75 per member for the Elks National Foundation (ENF) and promote awareness and understanding of the ENF among the membership. ENF is the charitable funding arm of the Elks, donating millions annually for scholarships, veterans, children¡¦s activities, drug awareness, etc. Coordinated activities are needed all year to meet this goal, such as special raffles, drawings, and other creative ways to seek donations.

PICNIC
Purpose: To plan and coordinate this annual Marion Elks family outing. The goal is to get as much member participation as possible in this event, and use it to attract new members.

PUBLIC RELATIONS
Purpose: To improve the positive awareness and image of the Lodge and its philanthropic, charitable, patriotic and educational activities and accomplishments to the local public, as well as the state and national Elks organization.

SOCCER SHOOTOUT CONTEST
Purpose: To organize, plan, recruit member assistance and conduct the local soccer contest for area boys and girls.

200 CLUB
Purpose: To promote membership in this club, and to organize its annual party.

VETERANS
Purpose: To ensure that our local veterans living in nursing homes are never forgotten by sending them cards, hosting a party for them, etc. Gathering donations and goods for distribution as Christmas gifts to the residents of the veterans'home in Sandusky.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES/FAMILY PARTICIPATION
Purpose: To plan, budget and oversee programs for the children and grandchildren of our members. Example activities are Halloween and Christmas parties.
