First - Happy New Year to all! The holidays have come and gone, and I hope everyone had a wonderful time. While January is not a favorite month for a lot of people with nothing to look forward to, your Lodge can offer a place for music, food, and friendship. Sometimes just being in a familiar place makes us feel safe and secure. With shuffle bowl starting up again for the winter, DJs on Fridays and Saturdays, chicken on Thursdays, free Bar Bingo on Sundays, and food specials along with light fare, there is definitely something you can rely on to chase away the winter blues. Before going any further, I must share with you that in December, my wife and I were treated to dinner which the Auxiliary held at the Lodge for its members. They were wonderful hosts and topped off the evening by presenting to the Lodge a check for $3,000. Thank you, Auxiliary members. I must add that Debbie Betkey and Judy Pyle prepared the meal and had the help of members of the Golf Association with waiting tables for the ladies. All did a terrific job! Thanks to both the chefs and the Golf Association. It is because of people like these that make our Lodge so special.Next up is news on the outdoor sign. All that we are waiting for is the transfer of money from the State into our bank account. Everything else is a “go” concerning the necessary permits covering electric, location, etc. I must admit that patience is not one of my best qualities, but don’t be concerned as we keep the contractors aware that we are still waiting. On Sunday, February 2nd, we are going to hold a Volunteer Party from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm for all who contributed time resulting in the continued success of our Lodge. It will be held upstairs in the Flaig-Wagner Hall. We will be introducing our new portable bar which should assist in beverage service not only at our party, but for future rentals and Elk functions. We believe it will be a big help; and if all goes well with this addition, we are looking into opening the 2nd floor on St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, March 15th, the day of Ocean City’s Patrick’s Day Parade. The plan, if possible, will provide the same amenities upstairs as we do downstairs. This includes corned beef & cabbage, corned beef sandwiches, DJs upstairs as well as downstairs, and a visit by the O.C. Bagpipers both up and down. We want to be open to ensure all our members have a good time. Unfortunately, last year we had to turn away many folks which is something we would like to avoid happening in the future. Our job is to try and make things work for as many members as possible. In closing, I want to thank all volunteers for everything they do. Without them and their efforts, we could not function. I promise your Volunteer Party will be a good time for all with drinks, beer, wine, food, dancing and DJs; so please come and enjoy. I say it every month and will continue to do so: Volunteers are the life blood of our Lodge. Without them, we do not work.BE SAFE! BE HAPPY!
