A Happy Thanksgiving for Veterans in James Arthur Court Apartments

Our Lodge has secured the Spotlight Grant from the Elks National Foundation which was used to give a happy Thanksgiving to 20 veterans who reside in James Arthur Court.

James Arthur Court, pictured below, is an affordable housing project on Royal Palm Boulevard in Vero Beach created to provide homes for low-income U.S. military veterans. The 20-unit apartment building was designed in a West Indies-style and each 514-square-foot apartment contains a living room; kitchen with range, oven and fridge; bedroom with closet; bathroom with shower; and porch.

Our Grant Coordinator, Flo Synenko, did all the shopping for this event and, with her husband Bill who is also a Lodge member, delivered the Thanksgiving baskets on the Tuesday evening before Thanksgiving.  The Lodge purchased all goods for the veteran residents to make themselves a great dinner with an appetizer, turkey breast, sweet potatoes, vegetable, gravy, salad, rolls, dessert and sparkling cider. Here's a look at what they received.

The recipients were all very appreciative. They pooled some of their items and had a group dinner.
