Elks Drug Awareness Contests

The Benovelent Protective Order of Elks is offering 3 different "Contests" for students from 3rd grade to High School in support of their Drug Awarness Program (DAP), the largest volunteer drug awareness program in the United States. The theme for the 2018/19 contests is

"Drugs Take Away ..."

Elks Drug Awarness Poster Contest; Open to all 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade students.

Elks Drug Awareness Essay Contest; Open to all 6th, 7th & 8th grade students.

Elks Drug Awarness Video Contest; Open to two age groups, Pre-High School and High School

How to Compete

  • Review the rules for the specific contest you wish to enter to determine eleigibility and required submission format.
  • Review the "Judging" criteria and ensure your submission has the required elements the judges will be looking for.
  • Ensure the submission contains the following as stated in the rules;
  1. Students full name
  2. School, Location, Grade
  3. Elks Lodge Name
  4. This Essay, Poster and Video Contest Parental Consent Form
  5. Video submissions must also include this Video Contest Entry and Parental release form
  • Entries must be submitted to the Mount Vernon Elks lodge before 5pm December 15, 2018.

Winners

Mount Vernon Elks will judge the submissions using the required criteria then notify the winners.

Mount Vernon Elks lodge winners will receive a certificate and a monetary award.

Mount Vernon Elks winners will then be forwarded to the District Competition. District Winners will be forwarded to the State Level Competition.  One State winner of each catagory will be submitted into the National contest and may be featured on the www.elkskidszone.org website and/or in ENF or DAP publications.

ALL winning entries become the sole property of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and may not be returned.

Rules

Elks Drug Awareness Poster Contest

The contest is open to all 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade students.

Poster paper: Ideally, posters should be submitted on 8½ x 11 inch paper. However, posters submitted on paper up to 11x24 inches in size will be accepted.

Judging will be based on the following:

  • Closeness to the theme
  • Neatness
  • Originality
  • Correct grammatical structure

Each entry must have the following information on the back of the poster:

  • Student’s full name
  • School, location, grade
  • Elks lodge name
  • Must also be accompanied by Hold Harmless agreement

Copyrighted characters are prohibited. Entries containing copyrighted material will be disqualified.

Elks Drug Awareness Essay Contest

The contest is open to all 6th, 7th, & 8th grade students. Participants must write their essay themselves, but they may get help from teachers, parents, or friends in the form of ideas.

  • Length: No longer than 250 words.
  • Paper size: 8½ × 11 inch.
  • Text: Typed, computer generated text, hand written or hand printed.

Judging will be based on the following:

  • Closeness to the theme
  • Neatness
  • Originality
  • Correct grammatical structure

Each entry must have the following information on the back of the essay:

  • Student’s full name
  • School, location, grade
  • Elks lodge name
  • Must also be accompanied by Hold Harmless agreement

Elks Drug Awareness Video Contest

The contest is open to two age groups:

Pre-High School

High School

  • Participants: May be an individual or group
  • Length: 2 to 5 minutes in length
  • Format: Flash Drive or similar "mobile" media in readable format

Judging will be based on the following:

  • Closeness to the theme
  • Neatness
  • Originality
  • Age and Language appropriate
  • Positive message
  • Quality of video
