Never forgotten

Inverted rifle display: Army lore indicates the helmet and identification tags signify the fallen soldier. The inverted rifle with bayonet signals a time for prayer and a break in the action to pay tribute to the dead. The combat boots represent the final march of the last battle.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Willamalane Park on Mohawk is being upgraded. This is where the 75MM Pack Howitzer (M116) is located. Many will remember Exalted Ruler Don Brownrigg and the Springfield Elks coordinated this donation and dedication in 1968-69. Each year the Springfield Elks participate in a Memorial Day remembrance at this location.
