More than $6,000 was raised to help young cancer patient Mikayla Violette at a Feb. 23, 2013 Luck of the Draw auction at the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge. More than 200 people participated, and the community support was overwhelming. Mikayla is pictured with her dad J.J. and stepmom Erica.

Three local youngsters won Maine State Hoop Shoot championships in their age division at Bangor High School on Jan. 27, 2013. Colby Esty, sponsored by the Skowhegan-Madison Lodge, also won the Amos A. McCallum Outstanding Shooter award in the boys’ division for the second year in a row, and Sydney LeBlanc, also sponsored by the Skowhegan-Madison Lodge, captured the Alan W. Richard Outstanding Shooter trophy in the girls’ division. Jaycie Christopher (center) won the Girls Age 8-9 championship.
