.

Mark your calendars for Friday July 26th and join us for San Fernando Lodge 1539's annual William Frye Scholarship dinner and awards presentations. As usual we have an incredible group of men and women we will be honoring. We hope that past recipients will attend and share their tales of college life and where their careers are headed.

Our sincere gratitude to past member William L. Frye and his daughter Dorothy Hamil, for entrusting a legacy of over $725,000 to the San Fernando Lodge. Since the inception of the William L. Frye Scholarship in 2001, the San Fernando Lodge has presented over $500,000 in scholarships. With the stewardship shown by the Scholarship Committee, the gift has grown in size to more than $755,000 which will enable our Lodge to continue to show that Elks Care-Elks Share.

William Lee Frye was born in 1892, his family came to the San Fernando Valley in 1900. William married Jenny Grant in 1916. The Frye home was a ranch in Calabasas until 1926, when they moved to Canoga Park to raise their daughter Dorothy. William joined the San Fernando Elks Lodge in 1929. Originally a truck driver, William became the Manager of the H. G. Zorn Bean Warehouse in Zelzah, which today we know as Northridge. During those years, the West San Fernando Valley had acres of lima beans instead of subdivisions.

Failing health and a foot injury forced William to retire in 1946. From 1929 to the late 1940's William was an active member of the San Fernando Elks Lodge. William Lee Frye passed away September 13, 1952, he was survived by his wife Jenny and daughter Dorothy.
