Elks History - West LA

An interesting bit of Elks history: Here is the Elks Temple (lodge #99) in Los Angeles, built in 1922. The pool area hosted many indoor swimming events during the 1932 Summer Olympics. Eventually, the Elks sold the building, and the building ended up being transformed into a luxury hotel above the Lake at Mac Arthur Park. Hard to believe but this lodge had 7300 members at it’s peak in 1929. As a kid growing up in L.A. I remember going to this park but I always kept my distance from that building because I thought it was a church! Enjoy, Gary

(a special thank you to Mike Jones, Elks Historian, for making this available)

Here are links to the Elks Temple / Hotel as it is today. The interior is pretty much as it was when it was lodge #99
