Veterans Corner Article #23

The Port Huron Elks Lodge 343 and Elks National
Veterans Service Commission Volunteers recently started a “
Veteran Ride
Share
” program to assist our local Veterans with transportation issues
while getting them to and from their scheduled appointments to the local
VA-Veterans Clinic at the Yale Community Health Center of McLaren-Port
Huron.  To date, our volunteers have already assisted (4) Veterans in
making it to their appointments. The Veterans have provided early enough
notice, so we have time to schedule a driver to assist them.  It’s a great
way to meet and enjoy the company and stories of our nation true hero’s, our
Veterans.  Please consider becoming a
Ride Share volunteer.

On another note, Lodge 343 Veterans Committee are always looking
for donated medical, mobility and bathroom safety equipment for Veterans with
disabilities.  Equipment needs include manual wheelchairs, motorized
wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, adaptive bikes, shower seats, lavatory
seats, step stools, basically anything to assist our disabled Veterans live
their daily life.  If you, or a family member, know of anyone who no
longer has the need for this type of equipment and are looking for a group to
donate these items to, please consider the
Port Huron Elks Lodge 343 Veterans
Committee
, thank you!  If any Lodge 343 member has an interest in
assisting with the
Veteran Ride Share program to have your name
added to the list of Volunteers, or can donate equipment items for our
Veterans, please contact Scott R. Harris, ENVSC State Rep at (810) 956-7374.
