Port Huron Elks Lodge 343 presented the $3,500.00 Elks National Foundation Beacon Grant to Blue Water Community Food Depot serving St. Clair County, MI. which is a Division of Gleaners Community Food Bank Inc. of Southeastern MI. Prior to the check presentation Janine Dionne provided a tour of the facility and explained how many local establishments donate to this needed program. As an example, when purchasing goods from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, for every $1.00 spent, FBEM will provide about $14.00 worth of food products to the BWCFD. Another example is, our local Kroger stores donate meats, bread, fresh fruit and canned goods to assist this program. The Food Depot receives assistance from the special needs students attending the RESA - Woodlands Schools, as the students learn basic skills with sorting, store room shelf organizing and facility cleaning. BWCFD also receives assistance from many local businesses, one donating a new large Stainless-Steel cooler, another donating (2) large stand-up freezers, another donating plastic milk cartons for storage.
