When asked why would someone become an Elkady I would have to go back to why I became one. The simple answer is Jill Cousino. I would come to the lodge with my husband and see Jill and a group of women laughing and joking while volunteering to cook, sponsor, decorate, and just plain have a good time. What I found out later was that many times while this was going on it was to help the Elks during fund raisers, funeral lunches, initiation dinners and planning parties. Over the years the Elkadys have helped and donated to the veterans, major projects, and the lodge. We have thrown some great themed parties, a male review (this was the best!!!), bus trips to Frankenmuth and Bronners Christmas Wonderland, soup cook off, and night golf, and the Elks' Christmas Party to name a few. From these "parties" we have helped purchase new carpet for the lodge, a dishwasher, remodeled a bathroom, donated thousands of dollars to major projects, veterans and more. (One year Jill raised $10,000 by challenging the lodge and its members to donate and she would shave her hair off. Guess what!?? She did it) I am so proud to be a part of a group who has done so much and continues to do more. The best part of it is I have met a great group of friends who truly know that you don't always have to be related by blood to have a great family. Joining the Elkadys is easy and the rewards are even better. Our meetings are on the 4th Wednesday of every month. I, along with Jill and all our officers look forward to welcoming anyone who would like to be a part of our great group.
