National Winner
The Elks National Foundation just announced the National Winners in the 2011 Most Valuable Student Scholarship competition and I am pleased to announce that one of the National Finalists from Michigan took 4th place in the National judging, winning a $16,000 scholarship ($4,000 a year for four years). Congratulations to Alexa Bakker, sponsored by the Holland Elks Lodge #1315.
This represents the biggest National Scholarship level award ever for the State of Michigan. We should all be proud of our efforts. This is a great accomplishment for not only this student, but the Michigan Elks Association and all of our Scholarship Chairpersons.
Legacy Award Winners
Here is the list of the 2011 Legacy Award winners for Michigan . Each of these students have won a $4,000 scholarship from the ENF ($1,000 a year for four years).

Congratulations to the Holland Elks Lodge #1315. They had a very good year for Scholarships, with five students winning awards totaling $29,000.
Emergency Education Grant
The ENF also announced the recipients of the 2011 Emergency Education Grants. We had one EEG recipient for 2011, Rachel Griffith, sponsored by Lodge 974. Rachel received a $2,750 grant for the 2010-11 school year.
The 2012 ENF Scholarship program will be getting started very soon. Enjoy the break for a few months, but start thinking about how we can improve our ENF Scholarship program for 2012. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
