Louisville, KY #8

KY WEST District No. 3480

MESSAGE FROM OUR EXALTED RULER: November brings many things; Thanksgiving, the start of the Holiday Season, Christmas, New Years, wait I am getting ahead of myself. Veterans day is also in November. Let us not forget our Veterans. We owe them a lot. There will be NO chicken dinner in November. Don't forget the Friday Fish Fries. Come out and enjoy the fellowship topped off with good food. We will have Karaoke on Saturday nite, Nov 21st from 8 to 12 PM. We will have our District Deputy visit on November 2nd and at this time we will have an initiation. Hopefully we will have those who missed our initiation in Aug. and Sept. for this important Elk Ceremony. We are getting closer to our Split the Pot Drawing to be held December 12th at our Christmas Party. Please sell/buy the chances I sent you and turn them in for the drawing. We have sold a good number but we need a big push to meet our goal for a $10.000 split the pot. Looking ahead to December our Memorial Service will be held on December 6th at the Henry Clay Hotel. We have held it there the last 2 years and if you have not attended one you need to come this year. I will announce the time it will be held in next month’s newsletter. Plan now to attend our New Year’s Eve Dance with "Perfect Alibi" the band we had at our spring dance. Tickets will go on sale Dec 5th $35 per couple $17.50 single. Two drink tickets per person, cash bar available.......... Thanks to Jack Anderson for his donation of a Hammond Organ to the lodge. We are looking for a person who would enjoy playing it for our ceremonies. If you are interested in this let me know. Thanks to all who took part in "The Big Brown Truck" pull. Monies raised went to the special Olympics. Thanks to Greg and Lisa Swinney for doing our Trunk or Treat again this year. It was a big sucess!

Fraternally Yours

Mark your calendar! The euchre league will officially begin on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 7:00 pm, but we ask that you be there at 6:30 that evening for a short meeting before play begins to review the schedule, rules, attendance, etc…

There will be two practice sessions at the Lodge on Thursday, October 22nd and Thursday, October 29th beginning at 7 p.m. for those interested in learning to play or anyone needing a refresher course. Please sign up at the bar if you would like to participate in the practice sessions. We also need regular players to participate, so “all you regulars” please sign up for the practice session too so we’ll have enough players to “practice”.

Play begins at 7 p.m., please be punctual, regular and timely attendance is vital in making this an enjoyable and successful endeavor. If you cannot attend on a regular basis, with the exception of emergencies, please sign-up as a substitute for the times when regular players cannot attend.

Corn Hole League

The Lodge’s summer Corn Hole League has ended. I believe a great time was had by all, and I would like to thank the men and ladies who participated. The winners of the Women’s Division were: 1st place – Jackie Abrams; tied for 2nd place – Elaine Ballard and Jeanne Boyd. The winners of the Men’s Division were: 1st place – Pat Ballard; 2nd place – Ray Diaz; tied for 3rd place – Fred Ries and Jim Smathers. We were grilling and selling sandwiches on Sunday afternoons during the Corn Hole League, and I am happy to report that over $300 was made for our State Major Charity, Kids With Cancer. I am never sure who has more fun the kids or adults. Nancy Petito is moving right along with the Craft Bazaar, which is set for Saturday, Nov. 7th. We will need help setting up tearing down and all the fun things in between. Salley Feeney has the Fall Fund raiser off and running. Some items included are a turkey deep fryer and a beautiful porcelain Native American doll donated by Helena Kuhn. We need to get those tickets moving quickly. Please check out our web site at kyelks.org, Kathy Haire has done a great job on the web site and it is easy to move around in. We welcome Eva Hefner as the newest Ladies Auxiliary member.
