West Shore Elks celebrate Flag Day in Style

The West Shore Elks recently honored Flag Day with a community event.

On June 11, WSE Officers, members and community guests converged on Hampden Township Veterans Park to pay tribute to the emblem of freedom and other flags throughout American history.

A gentle breeze sent the flags waving so the varied designs could be seen and appreciated by the approximately 50 people in attendance.

“For more than 100 years, the Elks have honored our American Flag through an annual ceremony. I thank our community members that set aside an hour to join us in honoring this symbol of our Country,” said David D. Maceiko, exalted ruler for the West Shore Elks.

The West Shore Elks was fortunate to have State Representative Sheryl Delozier, representing the 88th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, as the guest speaker for the ceremony. “Many don’t recognize the significances of Flag Day itself, and our flag is taken for granted, rather than being recognized for all it represents,” said Rep. Delozier. “Our flag may be a piece of cloth, but it means so much more. Our flag is a symbol of so many great things.”

The annual Elks ceremony is held nationwide by Elks Lodges across all 50 states.

Special thanks to our young Boy Scout volunteer who paraded the flags, one by one, as the descriptions where shared. Each visitor received an American Flag Pin and American Flags were raffled to two lucky guests in the audience.

This special ceremony was a great success and would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our Lodge volunteers and community partners, Mid Penn Bank and Ace Hepfer Hardware. Thank you for your support.
