Hannibal is best known as the boyhood home of Mark Twain (Samuel L. Clemens) and the inspiration for many of his beloved characters, including Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Each year, visitors from around the world come to explore our museums, historic homes, scenic riverfront, unique shops, and charming downtown district.

One of Hannibal's signature events is National Tom Sawyer Days, hosted annually by the Hannibal Jaycees. This nationally recognized festival celebrates Twain's literary legacy with fence painting contests, frog jumping competitions, live entertainment, craft vendors, great food, fireworks, family activities, and much more. It has become one of the Midwest's premier summer festivals.
