SPLASH Out Drugs delivers powerful message! The 2015 SPLASH Out Drugs event, hosted by the Lordsburg Elks Lodge, was held June 15, 2015 at the Lordsburg Municipal Swimming Pool. The annual event offers free swimming, food and prizes for local youth while Elks members visit with the youth about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. This year’s event them was a superhero one and participants were given the message that they have the “power to splash out drugs!” The event was supported by a grant from the Elks National Foundation, as well as by the City of Lordsburg and Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. More than 140 youth cooled off during the event. Above, Elroy T. Elk made an appearance where he danced with children, and adults, before taking time to visit with the youngsters. Drug awareness is one of the key education components focused on by Elks across the country.
Youth were able to win numerous prizes, ranging from inflatable toys to swimming pool passes by answering questions about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Elk member Eddie Barka quizzes the youth. Also providing drug awareness information for the kids to take home was the Hidalgo County DWI Program.
