SOCCER SHOOT A ROUSING SUCCESS

The Eveleth #1161 local soccer shoot was held on July 3, 2008 at the Mesabi Family YMCA, where approximately 45 youth participated in the competition. Under overcast skies, local contestants were treated to hot dogs and snacks after participation in the 5-goal or the target goal contests, and friendly encouragement and reminders to always say no to drugs and to conduct their life activities in a healthy and compassionate manner. Each participant received a personal Certificate of Participation, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners received a personal Award of Achievement.

Congratulations to the local winners, Evie Markasich – girls U-8, Nick Peters, - boys U-8, Emily Beldo – girls U-10, Mikael Markasich – boys U-10, Tori Wallner – girls U-12, Zach Rinne – boys U-12, and Zach Sandnas – boys U-14.

Thank you to all who volunteered time and effort to assist in conducting the local shoot, and thank you especially to Eveleth IGA, the Mesabi Family YMCA, Ferguson Enterprises, Seppi Brothers, and the Mesabi Daily News, whose pre-event coverage was spectacular, with an added bonus of coverage of the event itself along with pictures of event activities published in the paper!

These winners advanced to the District Soccer Shoot, where winners received trophies and runners-up received medals, courtesy of the North District. Congratulations to Evie Markasich, Zach Rinne, and Zach Sandnas, who each won their respective age brackets and further advanced to the State Soccer Shoot, held at the Minnesota Elks Youth Camp on August 16th.

Eveleth Lodge #1161 is proud to announce that Evie Markasich placed 4th in the state in her age bracket, and the Zealous Zachs – Zach Rinne and Zach Sandnas, each WON their respective age brackets!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THESE CHAMPIONS!

EVELETH LODGE #1161 HOLDS THE PROUD DISTINCTION AS BEING THE ONLY LODGE IN THE STATE WITH MULTIPLE STATE CHAMPIONS!

Eveleth Lodge #1161 is committed to continuing the Soccer Shoot program as one of its many important Youth Activities programs, and looks forward to an even bigger event next year, where, in conjunction with our 100th Birthday and Host of the 2009 Minnesota Elks State Convention, we may host the District Soccer Shoot.
