District No. 4600

The Eveleth Elks #1161 proudly sent another group of deserving youth to the spectacular Minnesota Elks Youth Camp from July 13–19, 2008. Eighteen youth (nine boys and nine girls) each had the time of their lives (or their summers, at least) at this Minnesota Elks Association showpiece, and our State Major Project.

As has been our custom, we partnered with our sister lodge, Virginia #1033 in sharing of travel expenses. Eveleth Lodge #1161 was pleased to have served as coordinator and chaperone for the youth from both lodges this year.

Thank you to all who volunteered time, effort and other goods and services to assist in accomplishing this activity, especially Sherri Thomas, Eveleth IGA, Variety Video, Super One Foods, and LCS Coaches.

This wonderful opportunity is presented to youth between the ages of 9-13 each summer. Significant resources are dedicated by the Lodge in promoting and preserving this important Youth Activities program. Although the camp is FREE to all participating youth, camper fees are assessed to the Lodge to help defer the cost of running the facility. Please note that the fees do not even come close to covering actual camp expenses (the Youth Camp budget is covered by the interest proceeds generated by the Minnesota Youth Camp Trust Fund, established in ~1962).

Eveleth Lodge #1161 will continue its long-term commitment to this Youth Activities programs, and invites all interested to looks forward next year’s camp!

Fraternally in Elkdom, Tony Jeffries, Youth Camp Chair
