The Santa Monica Elks celebrated their annual Americanism Night on Sept. 15, 2005. The SMFD and SMPD were both recognized for the extraordinary work in keeping our city safe. Staff Sergeant David Garcia was awarded a Certificate of Recognition for keeping our country safe. Benjamin Franklin Grammar School was given a flag to fly in their school. Joe Gonzales was given a certificate of recognition for flying his flag all year round (note: Joe made his own flag pole and his neighbor's- John Larkin, PER- flagpole, too!).
