The Elks will be here on Saturday. They are surely coming in a big drive and nothing can now head them off. The only thing to do now is for the city to get ready to receive them in proper style. Decorations are required. Every businessman should show the proper spirit by trimming up with purple and white and the American flag, the colors of the order. It has been no snap to get a lodge of the B and P. O. of E. here. The officials of the order have an idea that the town must first be able to support a lodge before they launch it. The town must have at least 5,000 population. Eveleth has it by the last census, 5332 to be exact, but it was necessary to prove this to the supreme Exalted Rulers of Elkdom before there could be anything done. It was done and the date, Saturday, May 20th, is set for the institution of Eveleth Lodge, No. 1101. There will be band music and a big time generally.
Visitors will be arriving all day Saturday. Possibly 500 will be here. Invitations have been extended to Duluth, 133, Superior, 403, Hibbing, 1022 and to all members of the order in surrounding towns. District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Wm. M Regan of Minneapolis will be present, with a degree team from either Duluth or Minneapolis. The oracles have not yet said from which town.
The oracles are also silent as to place of institution. Monitor hall was considered but the delay in getting the institution date has prevented the carrying' out of the plan. Announcement will be made in a day or two of the hall secured.
The events of the day will be divided between the afternoon and the evening. In the afternoon commencing at 1:30 the formalities of the institution will begin. In the evening commencing at eight o’clock will be the initiation. Following the degree work, the Elks will banquet at the Glode Hotel at what will be the biggest banquet ever tendered in the hostelry.
The officers of the new lodge have already been decided upon at an informal election held some days ago. The names are as follows:
