October News from ER Rich Herron

October is here with lovely days and cool nights, a delight to many people. Fall puts on a show of many spectacular colors. Summer is in the rear-view mirror, and we all know what is on the horizon – winter and holidays! The older we get, the quicker the seasons change. There are several events to mark on your calendar so I will list them at the end of this column.

I must inform you of the results on the vote for the proposed outdoor sign. It was soundly defeated at the Lodge meeting held on September 19th. The will of the people is always the right way to decide any question or proposal.

The House Committee still has a lot on its plate in keeping up with the needs in the Lodge. I can assure you that attention to repairs and improvements will always be the #1 item. Keeping our Lodge in good physical condition is a priority.

With fall comes smaller crowds; so if you passed on coming to the Lodge for chicken, now’s the time. Don’t forget “O’s” baseball and playoffs. Tuesday night Terry is the main cheerleader in the Lodge. We still have DJs on Friday and Saturday nights and bar bingo and Ravens football on Sundays with bartender Gregg. The Elks Fall Conference will be held at the Princess Royale from September 29th thru October 1st so we can expect visitors. Let’s give them a warm welcome.

In closing, remember if you would like to volunteer, just look in this newsletter, Ocean Breeze, to find who to contact for further information. Without volunteers, we do not work as well as a Lodge. They are the lifeblood of our Lodge, O.C. Elks #2645.
