York Slumbering Groundhog Lodge announces 90th Annual Event

The Slumbering Groundhog Lodge of York prides itself on carrying on the tradition of recognizing the importance of the groundhog in predicting the weather for the remaining 6 weeks of winter. Very rarely has York's own Poor Richard been wrong.

Pre-festivities begin at 6:30 A.M. with breakfast to follow the 7:15 opening ceremonies, at the Central Family Restaurant. Questions: Contact George Skip Lehmann at (717)-757-3665 or e-mail (slsuccess@aol.com)

The ceremonies will begin with the annual reciting of the Groundhog pledge, induction of new Groundhog members and then reading of the weather predictions (prognostications).

The York Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, in York, is reported to be third oldest Groundhog Lodge in the United States, founded in 1928. This year is the 90th anniversary year. In its 90 years of existence, the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge of York has produced unique prognostications from their groundhog, Poor Richard. Each year, prognosticators gather from the East, West, North and South to announce Poor Richards predictions of weather to come.
