Southampton Elks conduct a fine Flag Day Service honoring our banner and its history

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the USA mandates that each lodge hold a service in honor of Flag Day and pay tribute to our flag and its history.  Southampton Elks had their service on June 11th.  Tje lodge room was filled nearly to capacity - a very good attendance indeed.

The ceremony was punctuated with musical airs voiced by The Sweet Adelines a capella chorus, who presented patriotic songs and military himns.

Member Ryan Horne recounted the history and evolution of our national banner, from the revolutionary era to the present, with the assistance of our local Boy Scouts troop who bore each flag as it was described.

Mr Horne then described how each generation from our nation's founding gave our flag reverance and devotion, and when necessary, fought and died for it.  This was followed by an address by our guest speaker, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman which was enjoyed by all. present.

Adding to the busy schedule, donations were presented to Honor Flight, represented by Bill Jones, which will pay for 9 WW II veterans to be flown to Washington, DC to view their monument, followed by a donation to the Boy Scout Troop assisting with our Flag Day event.  Finally, three scholarships were awarded to local high school seniors who will attend college - see separate article on this website.
