Dunkirk Elks 1776 - MAY / JUNE NEWSLETTER 2025 - Provided by James D Fulks III PER -And- Vicky May, Exalted Ruler

Newsletter for MAY & JUNE 2025

Greetings and Salutations to ALL our Wandering Elks!!

It's that time of year again, the Elks who no longer tolerate our Hoosier winters
are returning to their Hoosier Heartland roots for the upcoming summer, after
their annual hiatus in the Florida sun.

As you return, you'll see a Lodge that's been a veritable dynamo of good for our
local community. Coming very soon you'll be seeing a new floor in the dining area,
which is a project that's been in the works for quite some time now.  Thanks to all
who contributed to keep the number rising on the project financing "thermometer!"

On May 10th the Dunkirk Elks Lodge Annual Awards Banquet and Ceremony will be
held. You'll see awards handed out and our two scholarship recipients, Sean Bailey and Morgan DeHoff.  Thanks to all who assist and contribute to this very worthy
cause.  I would be remiss if I didn't point out that this scholarship project simply would NOT have been possible without the vision and tireless efforts of
P.E.R. Joe Sommers.  It’s been a pet project for Joe for many years and he
has been the driving force behind it. THANK YOU!

LODGE MEETINGS are on the first and third Thursday of each month.  You really don't
see all we do as Elks until you attend the meetings and fully understand how much
we truly do with very little fanfare and credit.  This is the time and place to voice
any questions and concerns, and we need your participation.

May 3rd is the May Monthly Euchre tournament.  Sign up at 6:30 PM.
May 31st is the May Monthly Electronic Bowling Tournament. Sign up at 6:30 PM.
June dates are to be determined and will be announced as soon as possible!

The Lodge continues to serve an excellent breakfast on the first Saturday of each
month from 8 to 10 AM.
Dinner Tuesday from 5 PM to 6:30 PM every week. The menu is very diverse,
and you'll find something you like for sure.  Special thanks to all who pitch in and
volunteer to be on the cook crew on meal nights.  If you are a new member,
and you have that one special food dish that you really like to make and have
been told that "yours is the best" well then that's a golden opportunity for
you to step up and jump in the cook crew rotation.  We love new ideas!

Grill Night every Thursday & Saturday from 5PM to 7PM.  The menu
continues to grow & is a great way to get yourself out of the kitchen!
May 24th will be closed for Memorial Weekend.
REMEMBER! Annual Memorial Day Ceremonies will be held as always:
- Dunkirk IOOF Cemetery at 11:00AM on Memorial Day
- Claycomb Cemetery at 09:00AM on Memorial Day
- The Redkey War Mother's Memorial Monument at 10AM on Memorial Day
- Hillcrest Cemetery Redkey at 11:00 AM on Memorial Day.
Thank you to our Veterans who participate and officiate over these local
Memorial Day Ceremonies.  Our annual Memorial Day Ceremonies are
just one way in which we showcase how we will NEVER FORGET THE
SACRIFICES THAT ENSURE OUR FREEDOM!!

As I once wrote in a poem to a heartbroken mother who lost a son in
Afghanistan...."For those of us charged to keep alight those freedom fires,
also bears the burden of remembrance that never tires!"

Welcome aboard to all who've recently been initiated into Membership
of our fine Benevolent Order.  Extend the hand of fellowship when you
see the new faces around the Lodge.

A very special thank you to everyone who has stepped up to get things
in order.   Our Exalted Ruler puts in so many unrecorded hours to keep
our ship afloat, every little thing her shipmates can do to help is one
less thing in her logbook to do.  Continue to patronize and support our
local Lodge.  We have discovered that our member database needs
updated.  Please be patient as our new secretary reaches out to get
our records current.

MEMBERSHIP CARDS - the first round of cards printed was incorrectly
dated.  You should all receive, if you have not already, a new one with
the expiration date of April 2026.  Please let Cindy know if you have
not received your card!
Stay tuned to upcoming Lodge activities on our excellent BPOE 1776
web page which is kept up to date spectacularly by Jo Metz.  When
you see her around, thank her for her unwavering commitment to
our Lodge.

You can also see Lodge updates on the Dunkirk Elks Lodge MEMBERS
group page as well as current public announcements on Dunkirk BPOE
1776 Facebook page.  Join those if you haven’t already!

Enjoy the spring into summer, time really passes in a hurry it seems.
