On March 21, 2024, the Lodge held its annual Easter Egg Hunt for the children at Wabasso School - an Indian River County public school for the intellectually disabled ages 5-22. The night before several members met at the Lodge to prepare baskets for the children to put in the easter Eggs they were to find. We also stuffed dozens of plastic eggs and candies donated by our members.
On the day of the hunt several of our members including two just initiated, snowbirds visiting our lodge and other members arrived arrived early to hide the eggs at various areas of the school grounds. Just as the children arrived for the hunt, Elroy the Easter Elk made a surprise appearance. O course, Elroy stole the show while mingling with the students and teachers and posing for photos and spreading good will to all.
After the hunt, we provided refreshments for the children in the school cafeteria.
Our involvement with Wabasso School began several years ago by Lodge member, past Elk of the Year - Kandy Houlihan, with a Christmas Party that provided the students exactly what was on their wish list. We increased our involvement three years ago with an Easter Egg Hunt. This year's Christmas Party and Easter Egg Hunt were chaired by Lodge Secretary Kathi Miller.
Here are some pictures taken at the event.
