The Marysville Elks Lodge received our charter June 21, 1902. The first lodge was on the second floor of a funeral home located on D street in downtown Marysville. In 1926, fire destroyed the funeral home and our lodge. Land was purchased at 920 D street and construction began on the new lodge building. In 1929 the lodge was completed and open. With 14 rooms on the top floor, a prohibition style bar (the Jolly Corker") in the basement (said to have the largest wooden bar west of the Mississippi) and a large ballroom on the main floor, the lodge was a thriving part of the community and wonderful display of art deco architecture.
