Exalted Ruler --November 2018

Greetings!

Well, Everyone, we have officially made it through summer!  Welcome back, fall leaves, warm sweaters, and pumpkins.  Autumn is such a great time of year.  The colors are amazing.  After the summer we’ve had (90+ degree days) the cool air is a nice reprieve.  Anyway, now we get ready for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.  It really doesn’t seem possible.

Before I get started, I wanted to apologize for the absence of the newsletter lately.  I, personally, look forward to the newsletter.  It keeps me informed and I enjoy reading it.  Anyway, we had a little miscommunication and life becoming a little overwhelming.  I can honestly say that all of us involved in the newsletter have fixed our communication and other issues and we’re all on the same page, so we are going to do our best to keep our newsletter on track.  Thank you for your understanding.

Well, I have so many people to thank for their time and hard work.  First, I’d like to thank Martha Wraight, Rew and Carla Van Atta, Mike Dowd, Judy Van Leuvan, Bob and Freida Wheeler, and “The BBQ Kings” for making our BBQ for the Tablets of Love and Memory project such a fantastic success.  We raised over $1200!  Bob Belcher and crew made our Old Timer’s Night perfect, everyone really enjoyed themselves.  Thanks, Everyone!  Well, I also want to talk about the 1st Annual Daniel Borhman Memorial Member/Guest Sporting Clays Event.  It was a phenomenal success.  Thanks to the Borhman family and all the people who came out to represent them.  A special congratulations to Ivan Ames, our first “middle of the road” winner!  A heartfelt thanks to all!  The District Soccer Shoot was a complete success thanks to Greg Wheeler and gang.  The kids had a blast.  You folks are awesome!  We had three kids go to Albany for the State Soccer Shoot , and they did an amazing job!  Cadence Stermole took 1st place in her division, Evan Pendle took 1st place in his division, and McLane Stermole took 2nd place in his division. Now both Cadence and Evan will be going on to compete for Area 1 in Albany.  Congratulations, Evan, Cadence, and McLane!  We are all so proud of you!

So, what’s coming up? There’s some good food happening at the Lodge!   You all know pizza and wings started back up in October, and the monthly Fish Fry is starting back up on is October 19th, then November 16th.  November 3rd is going to be the Ham and Turkey Party.  Come on down and join in the fun!  Also, don’t forget the 4 months of giving, October is outerwear; hats, scarves, coats, and boots.  November is holiday dress clothes.  In September we collected socks and shoes.  We ended up with so many pairs of shoes and socks. Thanks, Everyone, these have gone out to our area families who needed a hand.  Our DD visit is October 23rd dinner at 6pm, meeting at 7pm.   State President’s visit is Sunday November 11th, there will be a brunch at the Lodge as well.  Just a quick reminder, the Lodge will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd.

Now, on to December.  What have I said about Elks being busy?  December 1st is the Decorating Party.  It starts at 12pm and is guaranteed to be a lot of fun.  Please come and pay your respects on December 2nd at the Elks Memorial Service for all our departed members.  Our Children’s Christmas Party will be December 8th. There will be food and fun for the kids.  There will be caroling, a Christmas craft project, food, fun, and SANTA!!  A quick plea to all our members… we’re going to need cookies please!

You know, I was having a conversation with someone a week or so ago and he mentioned that I have been your Exalted Ruler for more than 6 months now.  My term is more than half over.  I guess there is a little part of me that is a little glad, there’s a lot to being the Exalted Ruler.  But I think I’m going to miss this when it’s over.  I have been on the go so much these past months, but I have had so much fun.  I have worked with so many wonderful people and had a great time doing it.   We are working together to make a difference.  The heartfelt conversations and laughs I’ve shared have made me really appreciate that statement.  You may recognize it, it’s the motto of our Grand Exalted Ruler.  I know we all lead busy lives.  Between work, family, kids and all their activities, a lot of us barely have time to breath.  I definitely understand this.  I also know you need to do something for yourself occasionally.  Come join us for a few hours.  Come to a meeting or come and give us a hand at one of the many activities hosted by our Lodge.  I promise you, the sense of comradery and accomplishment will give you such a great feeling.  Thanks for hearing me out, and I hope to see even more members come out and join us.

Your Exalted Ruler

Judy McGlynn
