Exalted Ruler --June 2017

Members All:

A warm welcome to our newest members initiated on May 9th: Mike Haflett, Curtis Dunn, Robert Laughlin, Kevin Denison, Todd Casella, and Gregg Scudder. I hope you all will encourage them in their walk through Elkdom and let them see that BPOE also stands for the Best People On Earth! I encourage the new members to get involved in the Committee/s of their choosing.

Bob Belscher put on a great meal for our new members and a big thank you to Billy Morris, Tambi Schweizer, Patty Ingraham, and Kate Hoffman for helping in the kitchen and waiting tables. There’s a really good feeling when we all work together. Thank you so much.

As I mentioned in my last newsletter I would give you more information on the State Bowling Tournament held in April. Well, it turns out we had 36 Bath Elks members compete up in Schenectady. They still don’t have all the results in. I don’t know if you heard the news about what happened up there, but turns out that Eric Cranmer bowled two back to back perfect 300 games! I had one 300 series, but it took me all three games to get that total. Way to go Eric!

Membership Matters! I encourage all members to invite new guests to visit our Lodge and nudge them, just a little, to become members of this great organization. Have you asked someone to become a member lately? Make it your goal this summer to bring in just one new member. What a difference that would make!

While we on MEMBERSHIP, April was the start of our New Fiscal Year at the Elks, so if you have not paid your dues yet, now is the time to get that done. Consider this a friendly reminder!

For your convenience, there is a form on the back of most newsletters to let you know the cost. Cut it out and enter your name and mail it in. It’s just that simple. Also, please consider the Elks National Foundation and the NYS Major Projects as well. They are such worthwhile causes and really need the funding to continue to provide grants and scholarships, and needed assistance to those afflicted with Cerebral Palsy.

It’s still not too late to join the Membership Club! A great way to have your dues paid for next year and maybe get some cash back in the process! Ask any Bartender to get you signed up or for more information… you’ll be glad you did this.

Concerning the Blanket give-a-way we have been doing, thanks to Kate Hoffman for getting us the Beacon Grant, I would like to give a big thank you to Bill Hamilton who not only helped us deliver them to the local nursing homes, but he took it upon himself to make sure our own members who are shut in or very ill, that they too received blankets as well. I’m certain that not only the blankets made them feel good, but his friendship and personal visit meant even more! Salute to you Bill.

This Saturday, June 3rd, come on down to the Elks for a fantastic “Beef on Weck” and enjoy the Dairy Festival Parade with the Best People On Earth, and take advantage of the ideal location to watch it from.

We are changing the location of our Flag Day Service this year to Pulteney Park! Our Leading Knight Judy McGlynn has been putting together a very nice program that will include Policemen, Firemen, Ambulance personnel, Boy Scouts, Members of the Military, the American Legion Riders and more. Should be a wonderful salute to our nations flag. Bring your family and come hear the history of the flag throughout the years, and feel the American spirit being rekindled on Sunday June 11th from 1pm to 3pm. In case of inclement weather, we will use the pavilion at the Bath Legion.

June 17th, mark your calendars, for our next CORN HOLE TOURNAMENT! Who will emerge as victors this year??? Signup sheet should soon be up, so get your name on there to be sure of a spot. A big thank you to Greg Wheeler for making this event happen. Let’s pitch in and help Greg to make this the best event ever.

Our Golf tournament is planned for August 12th. Get practicing, it’s going to be a blast!

Also, coming up  September 9th is our “Tablets of Love and Memory” BBQ FEAST! We’ll be offering a brand-new Kayak as well as many other prizes! Mark your calendars of the Elks Gun Raffle for September 30th

At the End of the Month party on Saturday (May & June), the Officers will be putting on a Taco meal. $3 for one and $5 for two! For July, we might do Pizza or Potato Bar! See you at the End of the Month Party!

At the time of this writing… the Queen of Hearts is now over $1050.00!  See if you can find her! Drawing Monday nights at 7pm.

We are still looking for a couple of seats to fill. We are in need of a Chaplain and an Inner Guard. It is a worthwhile commitment and you are expected to be at all Lodge meetings. A great way to start though the chairs to become the Exalted Ruler of our Lodge. If you are interested in either of these positions, notify me or any Lodge Officer at your earliest convenience. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Finally, the Ritual Team will be competing for the State Ritualistic Title. We have practiced very hard throughout the year. Much thanks to our coach Guy McGlynn and assistants Tom Pietsch and Wayne Crans for their expertise. If nothing more, we have learned to become better officers through this endeavor.

Fraternally yours.

Bob Gelder, Exalted Ruler
