Exalted Ruler --December 2018

Happy Thanksgiving!  Our space is limited this month and I know your not reading this to hear me ramble on, so let’s get right to it.

November 11th we had a wonderful brunch with our state president and his wife, Stuart and Nancy Rishe.  They were so impressed with our Lodge and all we do as Elks in our community.  I told him we couldn’t do all we do without the amazing members we have.  A huge thank you to Rew VanAtta, Bob Belcher, Judy VanLeuvan for cooking a delicious brunch and a special thanks to Bob Wheeler for the great tour of the VA facility that he provided.  Stuart and Nancy really enjoyed the brunch, tour and the subsequent carnival afterward.  They were so happy to see how we honor our veterans.

I received an email from Norman J. Biegaj, our District Major Projects Chairman, and he thanked us for our $4,666.00 donation to Major Projects, this gives the Lodge a per capita of $6.09.  This is an increase from past years.  Way to go, everybody!  Thanks to Mike Dowd, our own Major Projects Chairman for his hard work.

We appreciate all our children who have and continue to participate in our district soccer shoot.  A special note to congratulate Cadence Stermole.  This year was her 3rd state championship in the Annual Soccer Shoot.  This year Cadence came home with a 2nd place finish in the Area 1 competition which covers 7 states.  Congratulations, Cadence!!  Way to represent us!!

Our Four Months of Giving is continuing, and I messed up in my previous newsletter.  For November we are collecting pajamas and nightgowns for kids 0-5 years, not dress clothes.  Sorry about that.  Last month was outerwear.  We collected 5 coats, 22 hats, 16 pairs of gloves, and 3 scarves.  A special thank you to Carla VanAtta who made 12 hats for the October box.  Thanks everyone for your thoughtful donations.

I’ve been told to keep things short this month on account of space.  So, I want to say thank you to everyone who has come out and helped this past month.  Your hard work and dedication is ALWAYS appreciated.  Our Lodge as well as I am grateful to you all.

Now, what’s coming up?  Just a reminder the Lodge is closed on Thanksgiving, November 22nd.  Saturday, December 1st is the decoration party starting at noon.  This should be a lot of fun!  Sunday, December 2nd is the Annual Memorial Service starting at noon at the Lodge.  Take a look at Dale Hare’s write up for a list of all our fallen members.

The Annual Children’s Christmas Party is coming up on Saturday, December 8th .  Be sure to sign your kids up at the Lodge by December 1st so we have time to shop.  Please, Please, Please, we still need Christmas cookies.  The December Fish Fry is Friday, December 21st. Special thanks going out to Melanie Coots and her crew.  We’re all glad to have the fish fries back.

The Annual Hoop Shoot is coming up Sunday, December 9th at 10:30am @ the Haverling High School Gym.   Children must be no younger than 8 and no older than 13 as of April 1, 2019 to be able to participate.  For more information, contact the Lodge.

Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

P.S.  Roses are Red, Violets are blue.  Jack, you’re the greatest.  I really appreciate you.

Your Exalted Ruler
