I am looking for pictures from 1952, approximately May. It was a seniors dance night. My mom and dad met there (at the Elks Lodge #168) and it was love at first sight. My mom had gone with her mother that night. I am putting together a memory album for my mother and would just love it if by chance, I could actually find pictures of that night. My dad was in the Navy, and his ship The Woodson was being serviced in San Diego. They got married 3 months later. If anyone has any pictures or stories from that night, could you please share them with me. Thank you so much! Eileen Taylor Lubow

Hi, I am from Leavenworth, KS and belong to the Overland Park lodge 2395. I will be coming to San Diego 9 June 2010 and will be looking for a place for 3 RV's to stay for our Daughters wedding. The other two RV's are also Elks members from Salem OR and Salt Lake City UT. Do you have RV sites or know of any other Elks Lodges in the Area that do. The wedding and reception will be at MCRD. Any help would be appreciated.

Being a relatively new ELK I have been told stories about how one would treated while visiting other Lodges’, I have been told one would be treated like “family”. And true to the stories, I now have my own story to tell. While my family and I was trying to get in one last day at the beach before “back to school” in wonderful San Diego, (I might add we are from the very, very hot Imperial Valley Desert) using a taxi driver at Misson Beach I found my way to your wonderful Lodge. As I walked up to your Lodge, I met Karen Lakey as she was going in. I stopped her and asked about the Lodge. I told her we were from Brawley Lodge 1420, without hesitation she ushered us in had us quickly sign in, then to my amazement proceeded to introduce us to your members, I truly felt I was being re-introduced to long lost family, I was in awe and very humbled by this experience. One after another, we met new family members. Knowing the whole time, we must have looked quite disheveled having spent the day at the beach, sunburned and sandy. But to coin the term “blind eye” no one cared how we looked. We drank, talked and my wife even danced to the JAZZ just as if we were in our Sunday Best, no one cared. You have tought me how to treat visting FAMILY to my Lodge. The only bad thing about the visit was I was not able to return home with your great weather, I did have to leave that with you, I did however your steal all the love and friendship you had to give. Having this being my first visit to another Lodge, it will always hold a piece of my heart, and remind me why I became an ELK in the first place. With that said, I thank you and my family thanks you so very much.

I understand this is the lodge that my uncle, Julius Johnson belonged to. I know how much he enjoyed being there. With his recent passing, I wondered if there is a fund or something I can do in his memory. I want to honor him in a way other than flowers, but, being a widow myself, finances keep me from doing something big. I wish I could be at his services, but am snowed in KS. Hopefully I will hear from your lodge. Thank you for being there for him.

Greetings. Do you have a history of your lodge? In working on my genealogy I have obtained a photo of great uncle Thomas Augustus Burke in fancy white uniform with BPOE insignia on collar. He died in early 40's; he and wife Bessie lived in San Diego many years where he was employed by gas company. Would appreciate any info about this relative. Would be happy to send copy of photo for your archives. I'll pay for copying, postage, whatever and compensate someone for their time with donation to your fine charitable work.
