Donald Dean Schultz was born November 8, 1935 in Normal, IL. He is the son of Simon and Ruth Schultz and is the youngest of eleven children, nine boys and two girls. Today Don is the only surviving boy and enjoys the fact that his eighty and ninety one year old sisters still enjoy good health.
Don, as he prefers to be called, began his life of responsibility in 1954 when he joined the United States Marine Corps. He rose from the rank of Private to Sergeant, to Chief Warrant Officer and retired in 1974 as a Major. His duties took him half way around the world from San Diego, CA, to Hawaii, to Okinawa, Japan, to Yuma, AZ, to Washington DC, to return to Okinawa, to Vietnam and back to San Diego, CA where he retired July 1, 1974. Don's major duties were management of the Marine Corps morale and welfare programs and facilities.
It was in Honolulu, Hawaii where he met his loving wife Shirley. They were married October 30, 1956 and recently celebrated their 58th anniversary. They are the proud parents of three daughters, grandparents of six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Don's second career was twenty four years as a self-employed small business accountant and enrolled agent tax preparer.
Don's community activities included twelve years on the Board of Directors of the Apple Valley Animal Protective League. In 2002 he became a Trustee of a multi-million dollar family charitable trust which provides grants to numerous charitable organizations throughout the Victor Valley. This trust is in perpetuity.
Don joined the Victorville Elks Lodge No. 1877 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in March of 1981 and has been an Officer or in other responsible capacities for the past thirty years. His Lodge has honored him as Exalted Ruler twice, Elk of the Year, Officer of the Year and Honorary Life Member. He served the Inland District as Business Practices Chairman, CHEA Vice President, District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler and District Leader.
Don has served the California-Hawaii Elks Association as Business Practices Chairman, Vice Chairman CHEA Board of Trustees, CHEA Treasurer and CHEA First Vice President.
Don has spent the last four years as a Grand Lodge Auditing & Accounting Committeeman for Area 7.
