Weigel Student Panel

In February and March, the Elks National Foundation Scholarships Department hosted two opportunities for Elks scholars to learn more about the Gunther & Lee Weigel Medical School Scholarship, the medical school application process, and the medical school experience. The virtual events featured panels of current Weigel scholars, who discussed the scholarship and application process and answered scholar questions. More than 40scholars attended, and so far this year, a record number of scholars have requested the Weigel Scholarship application!

The panels were hosted by Scholar Advisory Board member and Weigel judge Shaan Gandhi, a 2003 MVS scholar. We are so very appreciative that Shaan and so many of our Weigel Scholars were able to take time out of their busy schedules to join us for this event. Panelists included:

  • Eric Xia, who is completing medical school at Boston University
  • Iemaan Rana, who is completing her PhD in public health at the University of California, Berkeley and medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine
  • Safa Khawaja, who is enrolled at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Ellen Zhang, who studies at Harvard Medical School
  • Afeera Chaudhry at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
