August Elk of the Month Jack McLaughlin Jack is a valuable 6 year member who works “behind the scenes”! Jack organizes and runs the Sebring Elks monthly golf tournament. Jack took over with the passing of member Fred Jenkins 4 years ago and has done an excellent job. A round of golf, prizes and a nice lunch at golf Hammock attracts Elks and guests the first Monday of each month. Registration runs smoothly, all you need to do is call in advance (471-3295) and sign up. Jack also has volunteered his time to the Elks State Golf Tournament and has served as a Marshall for the past 2 years. He is also a member of the “Golf Hammock Guys” that sells paper for bingo on Monday nights. Currently, he is a substitute for them when required. Jack and his wife Judy moved to Sebring in 2006 from Beaver Creek, Ohio and reside at Golf Hammock C.C. They are proud parents of a son and daughter and have 2 grandchildren, a boy and a girl. An avid golfer and active in the St Catherine Catholic Church, Jack retired here to be near his parents. Please offer your congratulations to Jack.
We have a new Bread Baker in Elk Town and his name is Karl Reich. Karl has joined our kitchen team and is always coming up with home made surprises for us to enjoy! Pictured here are 3 goodies he gave us last Wacky Wed. Home made Italian bread to go with the spaghetti – which was a great meal, by the way. Then he came around to the tables and had us sample his home made gnocci. To make the evening a total hit, home made cream puffs!!!!!!!!!! I love the man!
Our Veteran Committee, Chaired by Bert and Evelyn Marple, need your help. There is a collection box in the Lodge hall where items can be placed for either nursing home veterans or active military overseas. Note, no spray items can be sent out of country. Anyone with extra time on their hands, please contact them at 382-7680. Not only do they need items, they need help with transportation on Thursdays to the Nursing Homes. In the Kenilworth home they visit approximately 17 people and they go to each room. In the Palms, they bring approximately 23 residents to one main room and they visit each there. If anyone has a military contact who can provide them names and addresses of embarked military, please get the information to the Marples.

Pictured here is Deanna Lewis and her mother Edna Daniels. This is an annual event for the Lodge and is open to the public. Join us next year!!
Sebring Elks #1529 has selected Pam Button as “Volunteer of the Month for May”. Pam and her husband enjoy the winter months here in Sebring and the summer months in Findley, Ohio. Pam is not here to just get away from the cold weather, but to participate in the community. Whenever called upon, she is a greeter, calls bingo, and works on the decorating committee. The Sebring Elks appreciate both Pam and Don in their commitment to the Sebring Elks.
Sebring Elks #1529 enjoyed the Kentucky Derby. They had several races of their own prior to the main event. Pictured are the Elks Horses: Dianna Kuen (Too Slow), George Quel (Cracker), Heide Stover (Why Not), Darlene Quel (May Be), & Dick Stover (Whiner). Several of the women wore beautiful hats which added to the festivities.
