HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY !!!!
I hope everyone has an exciting Fourth planned this year. While you are enjoying the day, please do not treat it as a time to party or just an extra day off. Remember the reason for the holiday-we are celebrating the birth of this great nation that we have the privilege to live in and enjoy.
I would like to say thank you to the Boy Scouts for helping out at the Flag Day ceremony. Like usual, they did a great job.
I also would like to say thanks to our Leading Knight Rick Phelps and his wife Helen. They did a fantastic job putting on the Sock Hop last month. The decorations looked great and a fun time was had by all. You can tell that Rick and Helen put a lot of time and effort in to this event. They raised several hundred dollars for our veterans. Before I forget, thanks to Warren Kerswill for providing music that night.
For the month of July and August, we are only having one meeting each month, the second Monday. There will be no meeting on the fourth Monday for those two months. In July I will not be at the Lodge meeting. I will be at the Grand Lodge Convention in Charlotte, NC. I will report on that convention in August.
We have only one Vice President Visitation in July. This one will be at the Merrit Island Lodge on July 21. Once again I would like to ask all of our officers and members to attend all visitations if possible. Our own Tom Pollard is the District Vice President and I would like our Lodge to show our support of him and of our own Lodge by having the most members at every visitation. To say I was disappointed at the Port Orange visitation would be an understatement. We had only four members there, besides Vice President Tom and, at the time, District Deputy Phil. We should have the most members at these functions, not the fewest.
Please mark your calendar for August 3rd, and 4th. Florida State Elks President David Lake will be visiting our district those days. Deland will be the host lodge and we will have events planned for his visit. Details will be announced later.
Do not forget about our weekly lodge functions. We have Tuesday night bar bingo, Wednesday night sandwich night, and on Thursday we have Joe Marmo's great spaghetti.
