American Heart Association Hands-Only CPR

Did you know that the American Heart Association suggests performing chest compressions to the beat of “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees when performing CPR?

You may be aware that our lodge recently installed an Automatic External Defibrillator, or AED, in the function hall.  This AED is fully automatic and is designed to be used by anybody, even if they’ve never been trained in its use.  AED’s are documented to drastically improve the probability of survival for people who have suffered sudden cardiac arrest.  Equally important as an AED is knowing how to perform chest compressions on a victim of cardiac arrest.

Bartenders, Board members and House Committee members have received the American Heart Association’s “Family & Friends” Hands-Only CPR training in conjunction with an AED orientation.  We are encouraging all members to learn more about Hands-Only CPR training by visiting the American Heart Association’s website:   http://cpr.heart.org/AHAECC/CPRAndECC/Programs/HandsOnlyCPR/UCM_475516_CPR-Demos-and-Videos.jsp (THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN FIND A VIDEO OF COMPRESSIONS ACTUALLY BEING DONE TO THE TUNE OF STAYING ALIVE).  These videos are informative and range from 30 seconds to 2 minutes in duration.  Please feel free to share this link with your family and friends.

If you’d like to learn more about the AED installed in our lodge, here is a website you can visit that contains some very informative videos:  http://www.zoll.com/medical-products/automated-external-defibrillators/aed-plus/video/

We believe these measures enhance the safety of our members and guests and will keep you posted on any future improvements.

Fraternally,

Board of Directors
