On November 11th,
Veteran's Day, Carson City Elks held a free breakfast for all veterans and
their families. RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) sponsored this
event and Carson City Mayor, Lori Bagwell, cooked over 100 pancakes and
sausages. The Emblem Club #507 was there to help serve the
veterans. Also Rebuild was there to supply hand tools along with a
checklist of home safety information, decreasing the likelihood of injury from
a fall, fire or other accident.
RSVP provides to frail
seniors and disabled adults transportation to their medical appointments,
shopping, picking up their prescriptions, light housekeeping services, laundry
and linen changing. They also have a home companion program to provide
emotional support for homebound elderly, which helps them to maintain their
independence, as well as exposure to various social events. They provide
pro bono legal services and personal emergency response services free for low
income seniors, in addition to farmer's market coupons each summer for fresh
produce, supplementing senior's nutritional needs. Their Respite Care
Program provides caregiving training as well as support by means of a break of
2 to 4 hours weekly to exhausted caregivers. For more info please call
