Get Smart, Don’t Start
Why do people take drugs, abuse alcohol, or smoke? Is it because they’re mad at themselves, other people, life in general, or is it just curiosity? I don’t think anyone can answer that except for the people who have tried drugs, abused alcohol, or tried smoking. But I do know one thing: this essay isn’t about why drugs are bad, it’s about how to be smart, and don’t start.
Teenagers who take drugs usually blame it all on other people. They say, “My friends dared me to, it’s their fault.” My advice, if they dared you to take drugs they probably weren’t your friends to begin with, so you shouldn’t be hanging out with them in the first place, none the less listen to them. Once you start there is no one else to blame but yourself. Another reason is that maybe they have problems at home, school, or with friends. If you are a friend of someone who talks about taking drugs, or abusing alcohol, talk to them and find out what’s wrong. Fix the problem before it starts and before its too late.
What’s the big deal? One time isn’t going to hurt me right? Wrong! It only takes one time to get addicted to drugs and then it ruins your life forever. So one harmless try might seem innocent, but it’s not. Let me make this perfectly clear: DRUGS CAN KILL YOU! They have the power to take everything that has meaning to you away: your parents and friends, not to mention it’s illegal and you could go to jail or even prison. See what I mean? All that happened because of one innocent thing, and there’s more: your house; car and other things you own could get repossessed by the bank or state because all your money is going towards drugs and you can’t afford to pay for anything else.
I have one more thing to say, if you’re on drugs, don’t be afraid to get help. People WANT to help you because you can’t do it by yourself. Finally, whether you’re curious about drugs or you’re being peer pressured into thinking about taking drugs; forget it, Get Smart and Don’t Start.
