Wherever she goes, Meagan Fuller will serve her community. From Massachusetts to Louisiana, Meagan has dedicated her life to helping improve the lives of those directly around her.
That is why we are proud to announce Meagan Fuller as the 2015 Elks Scholar Alum of the Year!
Meagan received a 2010 Legacy Award sponsored by Attleboro, Mass., Lodge No. 1014 to attend the University of Alabama, where she graduated with a degree in Communication and Information Science in just two years. She then dedicated more than 600 hours to develop services for at-risk youth with AmeriCorps in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Now, she is pursuing a Masters in Public Health at Tulane University.
“The Elks scholarship served as an impetus for my personal volition to give back and improve the lives of my community,” says Meagan.
Most recently, Meagan received a $500 ENF Cornerstone Grant to further her efforts in the New Orleans community. Meagan partnered with New Orleans, La., Lodge No. 30 and The Cookbook Project to hold healthy cooking classes for children in the area.
“For me, the Cornerstone Grant was a prime example of the Elks continued dedication and support for community empowerment,” says Meagan. “The Elks network is limitless and I am an example of the reciprocity in this relationship.”
As the Alum of the Year, Meagan will receive recognition during the Elks National Convention in Indianapolis this July and a $500 grant to donate to the nonprofit of her choice—Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a nonprofit that raises funds for children’s hospitals nationwide. She will also serve a one-year term on the Elks Scholar Advisory Board.
The Elks family is proud to be a part of Meagan’s past, present and future and we look forward to a great year with Meagan as the Alum of the Year!
In 2015-16, the Elks National Foundation appropriated $4.16 million to fund the ENF scholarship program, which provides college scholarships, ensuring a bright future for our nation’s youth. As important parts of the Elks family, Elks scholars have many social and service opportunities to connect with the Elks and each other.
