Friday July 3rd: The Q Mix Fire Works will be taking place at dark. We will have food and drink specials. A DJ will start playing at 8 p.m. and then plug into the Q-Mix radio special for the firework show. We will have plenty of outdoor seating. Come on out and enjoy the fireworks at the Elks.

Exalted Ruler Letter:
We had a great Flag day. In attendance was Senator Walker, Mayor Fred Armstrong, Col. Townsend from Atterbury, Our Past Elks State President Don Schoeff, our VP John Sauer and several other speakers. We also presented plaques to our Fire Chief, Chief of police and Sheriff. We had the dedication of Veterans Memorial Hwy. Followed by a cook out in our courtyard. All in all it was a big day. The weather held until all the event was over. A huge thank you for all the volunteers that donated their time to make this happen. At this time the lodge is doing fine financially. I hope it continues through the year. It is time to start putting together your players for our Children's Fund Golf Outing on Sept 13th. This is the only way we get money for the kids. Your donations are welcome. PLEASE help us this year to help the children. Looks like it is going to be a very lean year for the kids. I want to remind you all to stop by and look at the back yard, thanks to Mabe Hutchins, it looks wonderful. THANKS MABE!!! Don't be a stranger, come out and visit with the other members, see friends you haven't seen in a long time. Things are looking better every day.

Richard W. Weaver has requested a life membership. He is 69 years old and has been an Elk for 36 years. A ballot will be taken on July 20th.
Dues are past due
2009-2010 dues were due on April 1. Please check your dues card to verify that it is current. If you have inadvertently forgotten to pay your dues please remit them as quickly as possible.
Cancer Fund
Thanks to all of you who helped to keep our lodge’s Cancer Fund donation at a reasonable level. Of course, our country’s financial problems have made it impossible for some of our members to support the Cancer Fund and our other charities at the level that we would like. However, most of you made the extra effort to continue to support the Cancer Fund, the Elks’ major project. If you inadvertently neglected to make a contribution this year and find that it will fit in your budget, please send a contribution to me at your convenience.
At our recent state convention Columbus Lodge #521 was recognized for donating $6715 and $15.47 per capita. Our contribution was 9th in the state and 14th per capita.
Our widows’ contribution was $1605; and this was the second highest contribution from a lady’s organization. I really appreciate the effort that the widows put forth to support the Cancer Fund.
Scholarships
I’m certain that many of you have children or grandchildren preparing for college. You should keep in mind that the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is the second largest grantor of scholarships in the world (behind only the United States government). Three different kinds of scholarship are available. They are:
• Most Valuable Student Scholarships – These scholarships are awarded to beginning college freshmen. Judging for these scholarships is based on high school grades, need, and high school activities. The state winners are selected first; and those are forwarded to Grand Lodge for their judging.
• Legacy Scholarships – These scholarships are awarded to the children or grandchildren of Elks. The judging of these scholarship is much the same as the Most Valuable Student Scholarships.
• Vocational Scholarships – These scholarships are awarded for vocational training.
Applications for these scholarships should be available from the high school guidance offices or on the Elks website – www.elks.org. Applicants may also contact our scholarship chairman, P. Michael Hayes.
