To all,
We are in need of volunteers to help with the children's fund. This is a major cause for our lodge. Every year it gets harder to get help, please don't wait until the last minute to volunteer. I have applied for a grant from the Grand Lodge and will know the outcome on 10/20. So far we have about $5K to shop with. This is a very low number considering that last year there were 2100 applications for help. This year with the floods I am sure it will be twice that amount. Remember our motto "Elks care, Elk's share" If you have delivered in the past you know the feeling you get when you visit some of these homes and see just how the unfortunate live. One year I delivered to a single mom and her 2 children, they were getting ready to eat and the mom had pressed bread into a circle and covered it with catsup and baked it. The kids had a bare branch for a tree with home made cut out ornaments. Nothing under the tree. It was a very eye opening experience. So please volunteer and ask a friend to help both for donations and to help shop, wrap and deliver the gifts that we have.
