On January 7th our lodge hosted a DD Clinic. It was a resounding success. Ive only heard positive responses about it. Thank you to the officers, members and spouses who made it a success. It is a good example of Elks working to together for the benefit of others.

As all of you know, the Initiation Ritual has many beautiful parts. My favorite part is the closing sentence of the Lecturing Knight part & the time is long enough to grasp the hand in friendship, to lighten each others burdens, bring rest to the weary and to comfort those who mourn. To me it states concisely (in engineering terms since Im an engineer) what the Elks are about. We must never forget this. In these busy times it is easy to just give money and not give the most precious of commodity of all ourselves. We must give of ourselves to fulfill it.

The giving of ourselves can come in several manners. One, donate time to perform charitable acts. And another is to give our time to support the Elks and our lodge to make them strong and vibrant. To keep the Elks and our lodge strong and vibrant, we must have strong leadership. This leadership can only come from each of you by being an officer or trustee at the local, state or national level. Or you can demonstrate your leadership capabilities by the leading one of the many committees at our lodge.

At the first meeting in February, the officers for this next year must be nominated and at the second meeting elected to office. If you would like to be one of these leaders, come to the lodge meeting on February 12th at 7:30 PM. Step up, support your lodge, become an officer of the lodge. It is an exciting experience. It will make you a better person and make you feel good about yourself and the work you do for the Elks, our community and our country.

Lastly, as Ive stated in most news letters, we need you the members to get someone you know to join. Its always fun to enjoy your friends company at the lodge. That way well meet your friends and just maybe become a friend too. The lodge is looking forward to you getting your friends to join.

In closing, I wish each of you and your family a Happy New Year. I hope the past year saw each of you and your family prosperous and in good health. As always, I wish each of you and your family health and love of family and friends.
